ARTIST LECTURE // PLYSPACE RESIDENT FELLOW JOSHUA ICE

PlySpace, the artist in residence program of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council (MuncieArts) in collaboration with the Ball State College of Fine Arts, presents an Artist Lecture by PlySpace Resident Fellow Joshua Ice.

Joshua Ice will present an Artist Lecture about his past and current work on Monday, February 28, at 6:00 pm in the Arts and Journalism Building, room 225, on the campus of Ball State University. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.

While at PlySpace, Joshua will be creating a site specific sculpture from a combination of reclaimed materials and interactive lighting and video elements. The reclaimed industrial building materials used to create the base for the sculptural architecture reference the early industrial history of Muncie, and the abstract improvisational assemblages tie in with the current industry and rejuvenation of the city. Ice’s process is driven by creating connections with the community to learn about a place while working within the design restraints of spaces and architecture. The site-specific installation will feature high tech lighting and video elements to evoke a futuristic narrative and mood altering techniques.

Joshua will also be working on a found object assemblage project with students in a 3D Foundations course in the School of Art, led by teaching professor Vance Bell, as his community collaborative project.

Joshua graduated from Point Park University with a BFA in Lighting Design and Entertainment Technology and uses his theater training to create fully immersive works. He currently holds the position of Exhibitions Coordinator for the Mattress Factory museum, providing a platform for continued growth in artistic practices and technical savvy. Exhibiting in traditional and non-traditional spaces such as outdoor Cultural Trust Gallery Crawls, Bricolage Immersive Theater, Mattress Factory Museum, and other pop ups style exhibitions, gives Ice a chance to experiment in many different formats and mediums.
